Intro, terms, and tools

Career Ready Path is low-pressure rehearsal — not a job hunt. Five phases: prepare your story terms, practice strengths and a 60-second story, produce a one-page portfolio proof, prove with mock questions, present a friendly mock interview.

Portfolio is proof of work you can show — Scratch game, chart, pitch deck, chip photo, video, or GitHub. Strength is a skill with a tiny example ("I stick with bugs until they fix"). Interview here means practice questions with a parent — warm tone, no hiring decision.

Write why you are practicing (curiosity, confidence, co-op prep) — not "getting hired this month." List one project from any path you could link or screenshot. Open Google Docs for scripts and notes.

You’ll know it when: practice-why sentence + terms checked + one project named + Docs open.

If stuck: No finished project? Name a work-in-progress honestly and what you will finish next.

Parent tip: Be a friendly mock audience later — smile, don't grill.

About me without cringe

Practice a sixty-second story: who you are, what you like building or helping with, and one proud moment (school, club, volunteer, or a Youth Cocoon project). Aim for talking, not reading — record and listen once without judging every filler word.

List three strengths with a tiny example each. Name one field you’re curious about — no need to commit to a career. Curiosity is enough for this path.

You’ll know it when: bullet script + one recorded take.

If stuck: Read the script until it sounds like talking. If you blank, start with “I’m [name], and lately I’ve been working on…”

Parent tip: Be a friendly mock audience — smile, don’t grill.

Portfolio lite

Draft a one-page resume or about page — school, projects, volunteering, skills. Link or attach one proof: Scratch game, data chart, pitch deck, chip photo, video, or GitHub. The proof can come from any Youth Cocoon path; you do not need a brand-new website.

Parent checks contact privacy — remove full home address and personal phone if anything might go semi-public. One strong project beats five empty bullets.

You’ll know it when: PDF resume or about page with one proof link or folder.

If stuck: Screenshots in a Doc count. If you have no finished project yet, document a work-in-progress honestly and say what you’ll finish next.

Parent tip: Help strip oversharing — privacy first, impress second.

Low-stakes practice

Practice three common questions: tell me about yourself, a challenge you worked through, and something you learned from a project. Keep answers under a minute; use your sixty-second story as the opener.

Do a short warm-up with a parent or facilitator — notes only, no grades. Write one improvement goal (slower pace, clearer example, less “um”). Save the notes for present phase’s full mock interview.

You’ll know it when: Q&A notes with one improvement goal.

If stuck: Pause and breathe — interviewers expect nerves. If you ramble, stop and say “the short version is…” then finish.

Parent tip: Feedback sandwich: warm, one tip, warm. Save the hard grilling for never.

Interview day (rehearsal)

Run a friendly mock interview — not a demo day pitch. Structure: sixty-second story, one project deep-dive from your portfolio, two follow-up questions from the interviewer, and a closing “what I’m curious to learn next.” Keep the tone warm; this is rehearsal for real conversations later.

Reflect in writing: this is practice, not pressure or a hiring decision. Name one skill you’ll keep building and one thing that felt easier than last phase. Thank your interviewer.

You’ll know it when: mock interview completed (live or recorded) + short reflection note.

If stuck: Screenshare a folder if a live site isn’t ready. If you freeze, ask “can I take a second?” — that is a valid interview skill.

Parent tip: End with “what did you enjoy talking about?” — never “would they hire you?”
